We're in a group show with nothing in common!
Tuesday 9th February
6.30-8.30pm
Venue: Tabernacle, W11 2AY
‘We’re in a group show with nothing in common!’
As practitioners we’ll often find ourselves in situations where we’re organising shows ourselves. Be this an exhibition with ex college friends or an open studio show, these can find us working with artists with very different practices with no clear connection or theme.
This session ‘We’re in a group show with nothing in common!’ considers approaches to curating a disparate and unconnected collection of works and will advise on key issues to consider and exploit such as who or what goes where? How do you make it coherent for your audience?
The session will be led by artist and curator Nick Kaplony and will be an opportunity for participants to bring work (or photographs of work) to curate an impromptu temporary exhibition. Nick who is also Artquest Programme Co-ordinator and Exhibitions officer at Pump House Gallery will be joined by other invited contributors offering one to one advice on curating group shows.
Matt Roberts, from Matt Roberts Arts, an international exhibitions and training organisation will be present to offer advice on curating group shows and their current professional development and exhibiting opportunities. * New reviewer! - Susie Gray, formerly curator at the Pump House Gallery will also be attending the event as a reviewer and advisor.
This is a great chance to get your work seen and as with other emerge events, this is a hands on, shared workshop of doing and discussion.
