Map emerge is hosting an informal chat and development session about new projects as part of OpenFORUM at Matt Roberts Arts Project Space.  emerge ran a series of six events from October to March, this session is aimed at bringing those artists back together. If you haven’t already joined emerge, you’re welcome to come along and contribute, its informal and practical, and useful.

Monday 22nd March6.30pm – 8.30pmTate ModernFreeThis session is about establishing what your practice is about, who you want to reach and how.  This is for everyone who has a practice but doesn’t yet know who their audience is. 

Monday 15th March 6.30-8.30pm Venue: The Gallery at Willesden Green, Brent £5, Booking essential This event is for artists making funding, commission, exhibition or any kind of proposals.  Through practical exercises and advice artists will gain tips on how to make the most of their project and skills.  This event is for anyone who wants to give their proposal the best chance to succeed.

Monday 22nd February 6.30pm-8.30pm Venue: Dugdale Centre, Enfield This event is for anyone wanting to put on a show or project in a space that isn't already a gallery.  The event will address crucial questions in getting a space up and running - How do you find a space? What do you need to insure?  And, of course, why am I doing it?

Tuesday 9th February 6.30-8.30pm Venue: Tabernacle, W11 2AY ‘We’re in a group show with nothing in common!’As practitioners we’ll often find ourselves in situations where we’re organising shows ourselves. Be this an exhibition with ex college friends or an open studio show, these can find us working with artists with very different practices with no clear connection or theme.This session ‘We’re in a group show with nothing in common!’ considers approaches to curating a disparate and unconnected collection of works and will advise on key issues to consider and exploit such as who or what goes where?  How do you make it coherent for your audience?

Monday 11th January, 18.30 - 20.30artsdepot, N12 0GA Tickets £5, includes refreshmentsWhat are our ways of avoiding making art?  How do we get past them? Who can help? This event presents a critical and practical look at our strategies for avoiding making work, and how to get unstuck. Campbell Works will present their performance of avoidance tactics for artists, followed by a participatory workshop on how to get unstuck.  Also taking part will be Shaun Doyle from collaborative artists Doyle and Mallinson.   The event will open with a talk by Ed Pien, on the eve of his solo show 'Momento' at artsdepot. Join us and build on the growing network of emerge artists following our previous successful event 'I want to work in Education, but don't know how'.

Wed 28 Oct, 18:30 – 20.30 Tickets £5, including refreshments.This event, organised by Emerge and taking place at The Photographers' Gallery, is intended as a first stop for artists to get to grips with how their practice could connect with, and be supported by, a variety of approaches to working within education. Includes a presentation by artist Emma Hart, and contributions by staff from Serpentine Gallery, The Photographers' Gallery, photographer/educator Les Monaghan and Cath Hawes, Arts practitioner / Consultant / Educator.

Emerge was set up in 2005 to support artists in outer London Boroughs through offering professional development and networking opportunities.

The Emerge Conference took place on 12 November 2005 at the Arts Depot, North Finchley, and was the starting point for the initial Emerge project.
